In lieu of a spring workshop, the Alliance is hosting a series of workshops across Minnesota to ask our members and friends from the local history field how we can serve them better.

The sessions will focus on three areas: the Alliance and its membership, workshops, and the Legacy Amendment. The sessions will be moderated and hosted by Alliance board members. It is our aim to use these sessions to better serve the needs of our community and bring the most unified voice possible to the Minnesota History Coalition in its efforts to engage the Minnesota legislature on the distribution of Legacy Funds.

There is no charge to attend the sessions, but we do ask you to RSVP ahead of time to the listed contact person or use the form below, to help in planning for refreshments and seating. We are looking at adding more sessions, if you are interested in hosting one, please let us know.

The Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums seeks nomination for the fourth annual Minnesota History
Awards. The award programs recognizes and promotes excellent work in the field of local history across
Minnesota. The intention of the program is to give due recognition to the organizations and individuals
responsible for these programs. In addition to highlighting those who have achieved excellence, the program
intends to use the example of winners to show the rest of our peers how it can be done, hopefully raising the
quality of everyone’s work.

Projects nominated for an award must have been completed by and introduced to the public, if appropriate,
between January 1 and December 31, 2011. Awards are organized by three categories: Public Programs,
Publications, and Behind‐the‐Scenes.

Public Programs include exhibitions, educational programs, special events and more. Publications include print
and electronic publications published for public consumption. Behind‐the Scenes recognizes excellent work that
includes fundraising campaigns, conservation and collections projects, and other work that preserves history but
isn’t readily apparent to the public.

To nominate an individual or organization, visit our awards page. Nomination forms and instructions are available.

If you have questions please contact, Todd Mahon, Awards Chair, he can be contacted at todd@achs. org or (763) 421‐0600.
Nominations are due by July 29, 2012. The winners will be recognized at the Alliances annual meeting in the fall of 2012.

The Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums, organized in 1991, is a statewide organization that seeks to
nurture and encourage an appreciation of Minnesota’s local history by providing a structure to foster
professionalism and excellent work among local and specialized historical organizations in Minnesota.

MHS MICROFILM LAB – Updated 16 June 2010
The cost of acquiring copies of microfilms from the MHS Microfilm Lab has increased. The new prices are: $60 for black and white microfilm reels; $75 for silver negative reels. MHS members still receive a 10 percent discount on their orders. A complete list of MHS reproduction costs can be found here.

In other items about the microfilm lab, the Chaska Herald has a terrific article on that closure and its ramifications to local historical organizations. Click here to see the article. The Howard Lake Herald Journal also had a feature about the lab closure. Click here to see that article.

ARE YOU ON WIKIPEDIA? – Posted 17 November 2009
The popular web site, Wikipedia, features a listing of Minnesota museums. In keeping with the open (and somewhat contreversial) nature of Wikipedia, entries can be created and edited by registered users. Does your organization have a Wikipedia entry?
