2. Basic Documentation Management: Acquisitions and Registration

July 26, 2001, noon to 3 p.m., broadcast to seven sites simultaneously
Instructors: Sherry Butcher, Kathy Evavold, Kurt Kragness

The second session builds on the first session and introduces students to the basic steps of accepting an item. It will cover the scope of collections; temporary custody or deposit records; Deed of Gift and other legal considerations; basic form fields to accession a piece; accessioning procedures; registration records; the difference and comparability of museum collections and archives records (many historical societies have both); photo documentation; catalog cards and basic computer options. Participants will bring current forms and receive basic forms developed or gathered by the Alliance and instructors.
