3. Advanced Documentation Management: Cataloging and Classifications

September 27, 2001, noon to 3 p.m., broadcast to seven sites simultaneously
Instructors: Claudia Nicholson, Peggy Tolbert, Kurt Kragness

The third session discusses inventory control; location records; hard copy and electronic records management and records searches; cataloging; advanced fields; classifications systems and their uses and drawbacks. Accession processing is discussed in more detail, including the use of a cataloging worksheet to record information such as materials, maker and measurements. The use of donor or acquisition questionnaires, acquisition or collection committees, approval levels for high-value or high-maintenance collections will be discussed. Participants will receive sample forms and classification sheets.
