Training Sessions and Meetings

6. Collection Disposition

Thursday, July 25 2002, noon to 3 p.m., broadcast to seven sites simultaneously
Instructors: Faith Bad Bear, Lin Nelson-Mayson, Claudia Nicholson

The final session will discuss intellectual control of the collection and legal issues facing museums today, such as long-term loans, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), interstate and international transport, and the Endangered Species Act. De-accessioning, toxic material disposal and dealing with hazardous collections, including firearms and pharmaceuticals, will be discussed. The role of a collection committee will be clarified and defined.
